My neighborhood

Image
The neighborhood where I'm living is very wooded, and the houses are full of details in their constructions. It seems like a very safe place to live, as there are no walls or protection against bandits. It is common to find cars parked in front of houses. And it is also unusual to find people on the street or children playing outside, as in Brazil.

Crazy weather

In the first week of February we were surprised by a freezing rain that put the whole city on alert due to falling trees and power outages. We ran out of classes and so we took the opportunity to take some pictures, organize the house and also do university assignments. You can read more news about the freezing rain on the website:  https://cbsaustin.com/

Different cultures

One of the most interesting things in UT is the opportunity to live and share ideas with people from other countries and cities. To begin with the kind of foods in the meals to the ways of thinking. For example, most of the people from Brazil drink a cup of coffee and eat a slice of bread in the breakfast. It's not common to eat pizzas or tortillas.  The students are very engaged, and they organized festival to commemorate some holidays, like the Chinese New Year. It was a very nice way to know about Asian culture and get to experience a lot of kinds of Chinese games and traditions.  In addition, there was an Italian Carnival at the cafeteria, on what the traditional foods and musics was really special because I could remember my family (that has an Italian descendence).  In my opinion, this kind of events bring the culture even closer and the students fell more comfortable because it can bring a sense of community.

My favorite places in UT

The University has so many beautiful and charming places to see and study. It's true that it might be like a student's home, because they stay all long of the day concentrating and so far away of their own home.  My favorite places and things in the UT are the fountain, the statue of a family, the stairs of the building and the squirrel. The fountain, with a light blue water, transmit me calm and peace. The statue of a family, reminds my family, a cozy feeling and love. The stairs of the UT building give me the idea of professional growth. And the little squirrel reminds me that we need to be as smart as we can and that life is so short to complain about small things.  Although I am so far away from my family, friends and home, I'm having a good chance to resignify some aspects in my life.

Learning, sharing and new friends!

This is my first experience in US and also my first travel alone without my family. I have a beautiful daughter called Maria Clara and I am married to an especial person who supports me whatever I do. I expect to increase my fluency in English, learn new methods and get all kinds of tech. Besides, I believe that I'm going to have the opportunity to share knowledge and also have some fun with my new friends! They are awesome! 😁
